Corona police wrote 33 citations in a six-hour crosswalk sting in the downtown area on Wednesday, June 27, a news release said.

The areas worked were Fifth and Main, Sixth and Belle, and Victoria and Joy between Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Streets, Sgt. Kim Velasco said in an email.

Vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents have increased in the past 18 months in Corona, the release said. There have been 47 accidents with 43 injuries and two fatalities – both involving adults who failed to use a crosswalk.

Officers focused on vehicles failing to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, as well as jaywalking. Two teams each consisted of three decoy pedestrians and four chase units. Five warnings also were issued.
